The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has announced the Prix Anna Politkovskaïa – Arman Soldin du courage journalistique (Anna Politkovskaya-Arman Soldin Prize for Courage in Journalism).
The prize distinguishes a person [or a collective], regardless of nationality and distinguishes the work of journalists and image reporting journalists committed to pursuing their essential mission of producing reliable, free and quality information, particularly on theaters of crisis or conflict.
It is presented in Paris, or where applicable in the country of residence of the winner, The Politkovskaya-Soldin Prize will be awarded annually in early November on the UN International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, created at France’s initiative in 2013.
Allocation and amount
- The prize is awarded to the first candidate (individual or collective) designated by the vote of the jury.
- The award of the prize is accompanied by the payment of a lump sum, which must be used to finance a project carried out by the winner of the prize. The actual delivery of funds after the award of the prize is subject to the presentation, by the beneficiary, of this project.
Obligations of the beneficiary
- No later than the thirteenth month following the award of the prize, the beneficiary must send to the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs a report on the use of the funds received.
- The actions and declarations of the beneficiary do not engage the responsibility of the French authorities or the members of the jury. He must refrain from giving the impression that he is speaking or acting in the name or under the responsibility of the French authorities or members of the jury.
- The jury, in the event of a breach noted, may prohibit the winner from claiming the prize if the winner evades his obligations.
- The jury may also prohibit the winner from claiming the prize for any other serious breach calling into question the principles on which the “Anna Politkovskaya – Arman Soldin Prize for Journalistic Courage” prize is based.
- The beneficiary of the funds paid undertakes, in advance, to return to the French State all or part of the amount allocated if he has not complied with the obligations provided for by this regulation.
