Nominations are now open for the Siemens Media Award to reward the best journalists and content creators.
The “Technology with Purpose” contest is open to journalists from print and digital media outlets as well as social media and other content creators who have produced media coverage on topics related to the competition in the last 12 months for or from the participating countries.
For years, Siemens has been rewarding journalists for quality news stories on the importance of technology in everyday life while encouraging knowledge sharing among media content producers in the CEE region. The theme of the competition is “Technology with Purpose” and the original works on this subject shall be published between April 2023 and April 2024. The contest is open to entries of reporters of print media, news agencies, radio, TV and news portals, as well as to bloggers, YouTubers, and other social media influencers, content creators under the same terms.
In the 2024 competition, an international jury will be given the specific task of choosing the top five original works. The five winners qualify directly for the final competition, which will take place in Vienna. The trip includes a stay in a hotel, a gala event and tickets to the famous Viennese Ball for media professionals, the Concordia Ball. At the gala event, one champion will be chosen and given a trip to the Salzburg Festival in Austria with her/his partner as the first prize.
Objectives of the program

- Journalists focus and their contribution to the professional and quality research is of great importance for them as a company that strives to offer the most efficient solutions in the fields in electrification, automation and digitalization. Media representatives specialized in mentioned areas are their partners in the constantly changing business environment, and trough this cooperation they have the opportunity to take their work to the next level. The aim of the Siemens Media Award project is to develop, nurture and improve the quality of reporting on the topics in the field of intelligent infrastructure.
- They wish to encourage the journalists to thoroughly investigate all the specific issues in this area in order to make it understandable to the general population. Active media reporting on this issue will show them, among other things, how the technology can truly be useful for people, how can contribute to the improvement of life and become the engine of economic growth, both in their country and the region.
Topic
- The competition is open to all journalists and content creators that publish their articles on the topic of Technology with Purpose in print media, agency reports, online media, social media, podcasts and other journalistic work.
- This topic covers all segments of Technology from Siemens – how it moves people and goods, powers their lives, fuels growth. Whether it’s a reliable transport system, electrical grids that provide a dependable energy supply or buildings that offer space for housing or commerce, safe and efficient infrastructure represents the foundation on which an economy of a country is built.
Eligibility Criteria
- A regional competition that will take place in nine countries of Central and Eastern Europe (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia).
- Siemens Media Award 2024 competition is open to all journalists, correspondents, freelance journalists and content creators and Influencer whose articles on the given topic were published in print media (regardless of the publishing dynamics), radio, TV, electronic and online media and social media within the territory of the country they apply from.
- Television or radio reports should not be longer than 60 minutes.
- Entries must have been published or broadcast in the period from April 1st 2023 until April 4th 2024.
- Applications can be submitted personally by individuals, or by others on their behalf, with the written consent of the author.
- Participants that send an article or a report that is a work of a group of authors cannot submit the same piece individually. Such article/report will be considered as a single submission and it is necessary to define the leader of the team of authors.
- Submissions are non-returnable.
- Decision of the jury is final and there shall be no further correspondence on this topic.
- In case that entries which were published/broadcast in the same media in which some of the jury members are engaged, the vote of that jury member will not be included.
