The Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) is pleased to announce applications for Journalists award to stimulate and recognize excellent journalistic work that brings Mathematics, Science and Technology closer to society.
This year the award ceremony will be at the National Mathematics Festival (FestMat), an event promoted by IMPA for the general public, which will take place between the 5th and 7th of September at Marina da Glória, in Rio de Janeiro. With the theme “Mathematics is Innovation”, FestMat wants to show how science is behind technological advances, as well as bringing the subject closer to children and adults alike.
Awards will be given to reports considered to be of excellence by the Julgadora Commission and which present the areas of Mathematics, Science or Technology in an interesting and original manner, provoking reflection on these areas of knowledge and stimulating their popularization in society.
Award Categories
- The “Mathematics” category will contain entries of journal reports or series of reports (maximum of three subjects per series) related to Mathematics or Mathematical Technology, published or broadcast in any communication medium, in art form.
- The category “Scientific Dissemination” will allow registrations of journal reports or series of reports (maximum of three subjects per series) in any area of Science and Technology published or circulated in any communication medium, in the form of art.
Award Information
- The awards will be identical in the two categories, with each placement benefiting from the following awards, in gross values:
- the competition will pay a total of R$36,000 to the winners.
- 1st place: R$ 10,000.00 (ten thousand reais) and certificate;
- 2nd place: R$ 5,000.00 (five thousand reais) and certificate;
- 3rd place: R$ 3,000.00 (three thousand reais) and certificate; and
- Honorable mentions: certificate
Eligibility Criteria
- Registration of natural persons, national or foreign (who live in Brazil), over 18 years of age, jointly (co-authorship) or individually, will be permitted.
- Each journalist may create no more than three reports or series. In the case of series of reports, there will be three subjects per series, being considered a registration of the participant.
- Only journalistic reports written in Portuguese and also in national media outlets or those belonging to international organizations, but with Brazilian ownership, will be accepted.
- Only journalistic reports published and/or exhibited between the period from July 1, 2023 to June 23, 2024 may compete for the IMPA Award, in any of the categories set out. Submission of a report already submitted in the edition is prohibited.
