The City of Brussel’s Germaine Van Parys Award is dedicated to women photographers working in a documentary vein.
The first grant, the Germaine Van Parys Award, is aimed at professional photographers. The Discovery Award is aimed at photography graduates from Brussels schools.
By rewarding women photographers whose work renews approaches and questions the role of the image, this prize aims to support an essential change that is taking place today.

Award Information
- Germaine Van Parys Award:
- The awardee will receive a grant of 8.000 € to research, develop, and produce the proposed artworks.
Eligibility Criteria
- Mid-career women photographers, regardless of nationality, or geographical location.
- New or ongoing photographic project. The project must not have been previously published, exhibited or submitted to another prize.
Judging Criteria
- Submissions will be judged on the story they conveying, originality, and photo quality.
Application Requirements
- The award is open to all mid-carrier professional photographers whose work has already been exhibited and/or published, who enjoy national or international recognition but who have not yet benefitted from a mid-career retrospective;
- Applications must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a recognised
- professional in the field of photography (museum, gallery, publishing, journalism, etc.);
- The theme of the proposed project must concern the Brussels area;
- The photography project proposed must be unpublished, not completed (at least in its entirety), have never been exhibited or published or have won another award;
- The photography project must be documentary in the broadest sense of the term, i.e. linked to reality;
- Only one project may be proposed per participant;
- Participants apply for the Germaine Van Parys Award on the picter contest website, along with the following information/documents:
- A maximum 2-page CV
- A short written biography (1500 characters’ max)
