The World Photography Organisation is excited to launch its Japan Professional Award.
Set up by the World Photography Organisation and Sony Corporation, the Japan Professional Award celebrates Japan’s dynamic photography scene.

- The winners of each category will be notified by email and will receive a return flight to London (economy class) and two nights’ hotel accommodation (including the Awards Ceremony in April 2024).
Eligibility Criteria
- The Award is open to all photographers from Japan entering the Professional competition.
- One photographer wins the title of Japan Professional Award.
- By entering the Competition, Entrants acknowledge and agree that the World Photography Organisation (“WPO”) is permitted to receive their registration data. All personal information will be used by WPO in accordance with its Privacy Policy.
- The Competition is free and open to everyone.
Selection Criteria
- Submission Criteria:
- Eligible publications include books, magazines, newspapers, websites, social media and gallery exhibitions.
- Unpublished photos submitted for competition may be taken at any time, but must not have been previously published. Photos submitted as unpublished cannot be submitted again as published photos for future Sony World Photography Awards competitions.
Application Requirements
- The Professional Category is open to all Photographers who submit a series of photographs.
- Applicants must be aged 18 or over.
- By entering the Competition, Entrants accept these Competition Rules and their terms and conditions.
- The size of the work image must be between 1MB and 5MB, and the file format must be JPEG.
- Images must be saved in sRGB color mode and EXIF information must be attached to the image file.
- All shortlisted applicants must be able to provide high-resolution data of their work suitable for printing for the exhibition, if required.
- Up to ten (10) photographer finalists from each category will be selected and announced before April 2024, with Category Winners and an Overall Winner announced in April 2024.
- The winners of each category will be contacted via email.
- Entrants may submit a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) Works per category and may submit to all categories in which they wish to submit, however, they may not submit the same series of photographs to more than one category.
- Submitted works may be altered, but if so, the degree of alteration must be described in the image description when submitted. Submitted works must be analog or digital photographs that have been altered. Computer-generated content cannot be the original of the submitted work. If any doubts arise during the judging process about the degree of alteration of the submitted work, they may request the submission of the original photographs and image files for verification.
- The winners will be announced on the website and at a ceremony in London (black attire required).
