Open Call for Xiaomi Imagery Awards 2024

The Xiaomi Imagery Awards has uncovered touching stories from all corners of the world, transcending language, creed, and culture. Join them as they embark on a celebration of beautiful connections between people and their lives in this year’s edition – one that is bridged by diversity and linked by vibrancy.

Categories

  • The Contest is open to participants globally and is divided into three distinct award categories:
    • Snapshot: A single photograph.
    • Photo Essay: A series of 2 to 9 photographs related by a common theme.
    • Only at Night: A photograph taken during nighttime hours, with limit of 10 photos uploaded per day.

Funding Information

  • Snapshot Grand Prize and Photo Essay Grand Prize
    • Grand Prize Winner: $10,000 USD
    • Honorable Mentions Winner: Xiaomi 14T Pro (product worth around $872)
  • Only at Night
    • Grand Prize Winner:
      • Every submission in the Only at Night category adds $1 to the Prize Pool, with a maximum limit of $10,000.
      • The Winner will be awarded with the entire Prize Pool.
  • Jury’s Choice
    • Grand Prize Winner: $1,000 USD

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participants must be of legal age in the territory in which they reside during term of the Contest. To participate, The Participant must have personal Mi Account or be validly registered on local mi.com as well as a valid personal email address, which will be necessary in order to contact the Winners and deliver the Prizes. (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Participant’).
  • Inaccurate or erroneous data provided by the Participant will not be accepted in the Contest. The Participant must be able to prove, at the Organizer’s request and within a reasonable period of time, that they are eligible to participate in the Contest prior to participation and/or at any time during the duration of the Contest. Otherwise, the Organizer may disqualify the Participant at any time.
  • Excluded from the Contest are persons cooperating with the Organizer (entities and employees of entities providing services to the Organizer in organizing the Contest), employees and cooperators of the Organizer, as well as their descendants, ascendants, affinities, adoptees, members of their families and relatives (siblings, spouses, parents of spouses).

Selection Criteria

  • The selection procedure is divided into two stages:
    • First Stage: After the Submission Period, the Committee will evaluate the Contest Entries for each category based on their attractiveness, originality, and creativity. Each member of the Contest Committee may award each Participant’s Entry from 0 to 10 points, meaning each Entry may receive a maximum of 30 points. Based on this evaluation, the Committee will select the top Contest Entries to advance to the second stage:
      • 150 Contest Entries in the “Snapshot” category
      • 150 Contest Entries in the “Photo Essay” category
      • 30 Participants in the “Jury’s Choice” with the disclaimer that only Participants who uploaded more than 1 Contest Entry will be taken into consideration while selection.
      • 1 Winner in the “Only at Night” category
      • The Committee will also choose the best pictures to publish on the Contest Page.
    • Second Stage: In the second stage, a group of 4 Jurors (hereinafter referred to as the “Jury”) will select the Winners for each category from the Contest Entries chosen in the first stage. Each member of the Jury will evaluate the Contest Entries based on their subject, composition, lighting, emotion, creativity, and quality. Each Juror may award each Participant’s Contest Entry from 0 to 10 points, meaning each Entry may receive a maximum of 40 points. Based on this evaluation, the Committee will select the following Winners:
      • 1 Grand Prize Winner in the “Snapshot” category
      • 5 Honorable Mentions Winners in the “Snapshot” category
      • 1 Grand Prize Winner in the “Photo Essay” category
      • 5 Honorable Mentions Winners in the “Photo Essay” category
      • 4 Winners in the “Jury’s Choice” category

Application Requirements

  • Participants are invited to upload their photos (hereinafter referred to as “Contest Entries”) according to the rules described. The Participant may publish one or more Contest Entry during the Submission Period, for one or many categories. The Participant may not modify their Contest Entry after it has been published. The Contest Entry should meet the following conditions:
    • The Participant must possess full copyrights and author’s rights to the Contest Entry.
    • The Contest Entry must align with the Contest’s category and the slogan “Your vision, your story,” and should demonstrate the Participant’s technical photography skills.
    • The Contest Entry must be taken exclusively using Xiaomi mobile phones (Xiaomi / Redmi). The use of third-party processing software is permitted.
    • The Contest Entry must include EXIF information.
    • The size of the Contest Entry should range between 300 KB and 50 MB.
    • The Contest Entry must not feature images of individuals other than the Participant. If any persons are depicted, the Participant must have obtained the relevant portrait rights.
    • The Participant agrees to create the Contest Entry using their own skills and tools, excluding content generated automatically by artificial intelligence algorithms. Specifically, the Participant may not use ChatGPT.
    • The Contest Entry must not include advertising content related to entities other than the Organizer.
    • The Contest Entry must not contain obscene, pornographic, gambling-related, superstitious, horror, violent, discriminatory, or politically controversial content. Additionally, the Contest Entry must not include content that violates local laws and regulations.
    • Additionally, there is a separate category for the Jury’s Choice, which includes all submitted photographs regardless of the category in which they were originally published.
    • The Organizer shall have the right to reject the Contest Entries which are not meeting the above conditions.
  • Submission
    • The Contest is organized into global and regional levels. Participants are required to select their appropriate site for participation and upload their photographs to the Contest Page. Participants must select the “Global Region” if they are not residents of Turkey, Japan, India, Malaysia, or Poland.
    • Participants must ensure they accurately select their region based on residency; failure to do so will result in disqualification from winning any Prize.
    • Contest Entry Upload Procedure
    • Participants must upload their photographs to the Contest Page, selecting at least one (1) theme label for each submission. The following information must be provided for each photograph: EXIF data, the Participant’s email and name, the Contest Entry title, and a description.
    • Upon submission, each Contest Entry will be reviewed by the Organizer. The Organizer reserves the right to publicly display any Contest Entry that meet all specified requirements on the Contest Page.
