The Investigative Journalism Foundation, Internews in Kyrgyzstan and the Soros Foundation-Kyrgyzstan has announced a competition for the VI Ulanbek Egizbayev Prize for the best investigative journalism in Kyrgyzstan in 2023.
The purpose of the competition is to increase the interest of journalists in the development of the genre of investigative journalism in the country, as well as in initiatives aimed at covering the facts of uncovering and suppressing corruption schemes and illegal phenomena.
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to submissions from journalists, media organizations, freelancers, civil activists, bloggers, students and other interested parties involved in investigative journalism.
- Materials published from January 1 to December 31, 2023 are eligible for the competition.
- One applicant can submit an unlimited number of materials. In this case, a separate application must be filled out for each material submitted to the competition.
- Unpublished materials do not participate in the competition.
- Applications can be submitted by both the authors themselves and any citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic who believes that this investigation was done at a high professional level and deserves an award.
Criteria
- The main criteria when evaluating work:
- the relevance and scale of the topic of investigative journalism;
- author’s approach and style;
- variety of formats and visualization (multimedia);
- completeness of the topic;
- evidence of the investigation;
- exclusivity of the information received;
- upholding ethical and professional standards of investigative journalism.
