Deadline: 28 February 2024
The AI Journalism Lab is a new program developed by J+ at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, with support from Microsoft to involve journalists in finding ways to navigate and harness generative AI in ethical ways that reinforce trust from communities and increase impact, even as the technology is in its infancy.
In addition, they believe that journalists should have a direct understanding of AI through experimentation to be able to think strategically about its applications to their work.
In that spirit, the AI Journalism Lab will adopt a seminar and lab model, alternating classes between lectures by AI visionaries and hands-on sessions by seasoned practitioners, with many opportunities for meaningful conversation.
Classes and coaching sessions will be led by a diverse and experienced group of media and AI innovators who understand technology from a journalism perspective, including the Program Lead, Nikita Roy, host of the podcast Newsroom Robots, AI educator and current Knight Fellow at ICFJ.
Finally, the cohort participants will be able to dig deeper into AI-related topics, with the help of a coach, produce and present a final project and contribute meaningfully to the conversation around generative AI and journalism.
Cost Covered
- They will offer a flat travel stipend to help participants make the trip to the kick-off session in New York May 3 and 4, if needed. This in-person session is mandatory for program participants.
