AFLAMUNA is inviting applications to support the development of bold new ideas for the Arab Independent Film Ecosystem.
Models that completely reimagine how they train, produce, distribute, and archive. Projects that are entirely new and unprecedented or take their inspiration from once promising practices that have fallen out of use. From self-organizing to commoning resources to forging new pathways to audiences, they are open to all ideas that question the current systems of distribution of resources, power, and access.
Funding Information
- Each selected project will receive a development grant between 2,000 and 4,000 EUR and will be accompanied by experts through the development process and towards realizing a full proposal and financial plan.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any individual, collective, or emerging organization with an innovative project for independent Arab film they would like to develop.
- Individuals
- Individuals must be above 18 years old and be from one of the 22 Arab countries.
- The project must be intended for implementation in one of the 22 Arab countries.
- Collectives & Organizations
- Collectives must be formed primarily of people residing in one of the 22 Arab countries.
- Organizations must be registered in one of the 22 Arab countries.
- Collectives and organizations that apply must also name an individual to lead the project.
- The project must be intended for implementation in one of the 22 Arab countries.
- Individuals
Conditions
- The application will require a detailed description of your initiative and its role within the independent film ecosystem. Individuals will be required to share their CVs, and collectives and/or organizations will be asked to submit their institutional profiles.
- The application will also ask you to select the area within the film ecosystem the initiative tackles:
- Capacity-building: everything related to training and knowledge sharing for filmmakers and film technicians.
- Creation: everything related to making films, from development to post-production.
- Distribution and Exhibition: classical and alternative distribution, exhibition, audience-building, and outreach.
- Networking and Visibility: from festivals to markets to co-production platforms and anything in between.
- System-memory: research, archive, and documentation.
- Basic Infrastructure: the groundwork, from financing and funding to legal matters and advocacy.
