The Encounters South African International Documentary Festival is excited to announce the opening of applications for individuals interested in becoming film readers for their 2025 edition.
They are seeking a dedicated team with a genuine passion for non-fiction cinema. This opportunity is ideal for those with some background in filmmaking, film studies, film criticism, film programming and curation.

Eligibility Criteria
- Encounters South African International Documentary Festival is for film readers for its 2025 edition. They’re looking for passionate individuals with backgrounds in filmmaking, film studies, or criticism to review a range of films.
- Additionally, you will participate in monthly meetings with the Encounters team to provide feedback on your viewing experiences.
- Candidates from anywhere in Africa are welcome to apply, but proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.

Basic Requirements
- Computer literate (e.g. MS Word, Excel & Google Docs).
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Own computer/laptop and access to data.

- Abridged CV (maximum 3 pages).
- Motivation Letter (200 – 400 words).
- A short review of a non-fiction film you’ve recently seen (150 – 250 words).
