Deadline: 25 December 2024
The Antenna Foundation Nepal (AFN) calls all the social media influencers across Nepal to participate in a three-day workshop on “Citizen Journalism Workshop” to be held on 7-9 January 2025 at Kathmandu.
Through this application, we intend to train 20 content producers on journalism skills and tools about fact-checking and environmental issues. This application call has been done under the “Media for Inclusive Green Growth (MIGG)” project implemented by Antenna Foundation Nepal (AFN) in partnership with Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and funded by the European Union (EU).
Nepal has been at the receiving end of various global environmental changes significantly impacting communities in Nepal, with marginalized and vulnerable groups facing disproportionate challenges. Besides that, recent changes in policies to federalism provides decentralized decision-making for natural resources governance offering avenues for sustainable development and green growth. Alongside, various mismanagement and environmental degradation and conflicts in resource use are being reported at different levels.
Besides other media platforms, social media and content producers hold a significant role in today’s digital information and communication ecosystem. Content producers can play a critical role in raising awareness, raising community voices, and facilitating dialogue with policymakers. However, many social media influencers today lack formal training in journalism and fact-checking (misinformation and disinformation), which can limit their ability to produce reliable and impactful content, especially when it comes to environmental issues and promoting green growth. Recognizing this need, this three-day workshop will enhance capacity of content producers in fact-checking and journalism skills. Alongside, the workshop also aims to harness the power of media influencers to produce credible and informative content on environmental issues and challenges.
