Are you a storyteller with a migration background and feel that the mainstream media underrepresents your story? Would you like to develop your journalism skills through collaborative and dynamic workshops taught by experienced media makers? And finally, do you have a compelling and impactful story about your community, language or migration history that you’d like to share? Then the MigraVoice pop-up newsroom could be for you.
They’re looking for journalists with a migration background to join the pop-up newsroom and work on a story of their choice with the help of Are We Europe, Raseef22 and the partners.
The pop-up newsroom, lasting six months, will kick-off with a three-day bootcamp in Berlin in June. Participating journalists will receive training from international media experts, in-depth and hands-on editorial guidance as well as networking opportunities.
Funding Information
- Participants will receive micro-grants of 2,000 euros to develop their story ideas and collaborate on a topical multi-media publication across investigative, narrative and visual journalism.
Who can apply?
- if you were born in a country outside of the 30 most developed (according to the UNDP’s Human Development Index)
- if you identify as 1st generation migrant
- proficient in English as this is the working language of the project
- experience or interest in journalism/storytelling/community engagement
- knowledge of digital tools and platforms
- passion for driving social change and making positive impact
- you should be able to travel within Europe/specifically to Berlin for the in-person training bootcamp between 11-13 June 2024
