The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) “News Reporting Pitch” seeks to empower young Cambodian journalists by connecting them with experienced counterparts accustomed to international reporting standards.
This connection enables them to write on topics relevant to KAS’s programs, gaining recognition through publication. Thus, “News Reporting Pitch” contributes to fostering unbiased and independent media while elevating journalistic standards in Cambodia.
“News Reporting Pitch” aims to elevate the quality and quantity of journalistic works meeting international standards. Independent, unbiased journalism at high international standards is a cornerstone of democracy. To bolster democracy in Cambodia, journalists need to embrace these reporting standards.
Objectives
- Enhance Cambodia’s journalism quality, adhering to international standards.
- Encourage coverage of vital topics for a free and just society, bolstering democratic values.
- Deepen understanding of media’s role in democracy development.
- Elevate recognition and reputation of Cambodian journalists internationally.
Funding Information
- The selected team will receive 1600 USD (gross), including withholding tax, to research, report, and write the story.
Plan
- The program targets young journalists who have yet to gain extensive experience in their field and who are interested in writing about topics that connect to the work of KAS, namely Global Affairs & Governance, Sustainable Economy & Innovation and Media & Society Engagement.
- Note: KAS expects an acknowledgement of support in return.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to teams consisting of at least two journalists who demonstrate the ability to conduct field reporting following international standards and who have shown an interest in reporting on topics relevant to KAS. They encourage pitches from freelancers and young journalists who tackle underreported narratives but is open to all proposals.
