DW Akademie and Alharaca open their call for the third edition of #CambiaLaHistoria in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile, an exchange, learning and journalistic production program that seeks to transcend gender stereotypes and build new narratives in the context of violence in Latin America.
Why participate?
- This process allows the exchange of knowledge and experiences about violence from a gender and intersectional perspective, acquiring knowledge about gender violence and the construction of gender stereotypes in Latin America from a critical and intersectional analysis, as well as specializing in the tools of the constructive journalism, which allows the creation of narratives towards new imaginaries free of violence.

- In addition, the learning spaces are complemented by the opportunity to put into practice what has been learned through the development of a research project. The support of mentors, editors and experts on issues of violence, human rights, gender, masculinities and constructive journalism will allow the creation of journalistic work on any manifestation of violence.

- Furthermore, the exchange spaces are complemented by the opportunity to put them into practice through the production of a proposed guide for the incorporation of a gender and intersectional approach in the editorial line of your medium, adapted to the needs of your media. local context.
What awaits you in the third edition of #CambiaLaHistoria
- The project consists of two simultaneous processes: 1) Training and professional exchange and 2) the development of a personal journalistic project. It takes place over 6 weeks: June 26 to August 7, 2024 and means 2 hours of virtual meetings and 2 hours of autonomous learning per week.
- At the end of this first phase, 30 people from the total number of participants will have the possibility of continuing with the development of their story for three months, receiving personalized editorial support, as well as a scholarship of 1,000 EUR for the production costs of the research in their respective output format (written, podcast or photojournalism, among others)
Selection Criteria
- for journalist
- On this occasion, the project invites women, men and trans and non-binary people to participate who are journalists in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile with at least 5 years of experience working on issues of violence and/or gender. People with professional experience in written journalism, podcasts or photojournalism who are interested in exploring new digital formats are invited.
- The objective of the program is to address violence journalistically from a gender perspective and, at the same time, show replicable examples that offer hope in the region.
- A jury made up of people from Alharaca and DW Akademie will select the participating people
- In total, a maximum of 75 people will be selected from the six countries called: Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile
- A minimum of five years of journalistic experience is required
- A first pitch of the story you want to tell is requested.
- Professional motivations for participation in the project will be analyzed.
- Proposals with novel and relevant themes will be valued.
- A balance will be sought in terms of gender and geographical diversity of the participating countries
- To receive the scholarship after the first phase of the program, it is mandatory to have the support of a media outlet that is committed to publishing the journalistic work (letter of commitment).
- for Editors
- On this occasion, the project invites women, men and trans and non-binary people who are editors with at least 5 years of experience in media (it can be written text, but also in photojournalism or any multimedia and/or transmedia format who edit) in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile.
- The objective of the program is to address the structural causes of violence from the newsrooms and, in turn, introduce good practices in the media to make visible examples of resistance and alternatives that offer hope.
- A jury made up of people from Alharaca and DW Akademie will select the participating people
- In total, a maximum of 15 people will be selected from the six countries called: Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Chile
- A minimum of five years of experience in an editorial position is required.
- Professional motivations for participation in the project will be analyzed.
- A balance will be sought in terms of gender and geographical diversity of the participating countries.
