Deadline: 7 June 2024
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is seeking applications for the Communicators Workshop to strengthen the skills of communicators to research and report on relatively underreported renewable energy issues in India, such as rooftop solar, green hydrogen etc.
Tamil Nadu, previously a front-runner in onshore wind-energy production, has been lagging in the race toward renewable energy lately. To boost installed capacity and accelerate production, the state government is looking at repowering onshore and installing offshore wind turbines, while simultaneously boosting sectors like solar and green hydrogen.
The state’s commitment to renewables is clear; it recently released the first greenhouse gas inventory and pathways to net zero. To improve awareness about its progress, and provide critical feedback on policy frameworks, EJN is organizing a three-day workshop for communicators.
Benefits
- EJN will facilitate engagement between communicators, researchers, subject experts, policymakers and communities, providing an opportunity to gain knowledge and deepen understanding of the situation.
- The organizers will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and meals of selected participants.
- The workshop will include a field trip to a suitable location.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must:
- Commit to attending all days of the workshop.
- Have some experience reporting in one or more of the following areas: energy, environment, business and/or science.
- Understand and be able to communicate in English and/or Tamil.
- Demonstrate interest in renewable energy issues.
- Permit republication by the organizers of any output as a result of participation in the workshop.
- Applications are open to communicators based in Tamil Nadu from print, online, radio and television outlets. Communicators based outside Tamil Nadu but working for outlets with large audiences in Tamil Nadu are also eligible.
- They especially encourage women, Dalit, Indigenous peoples, persons living with disability and early- and mid-career professionals to apply.
