CFAs: Development Research & Experiment

Applications for research & experimentation can be made for the development of a scenario or storyboard for a film production as well as the deployment of a script coach, the involvement of a team of creative and technical experts or for making initial (test) recordings.

This scheme is part of Selective Funding. The Fund gives priority to high-quality, diverse and daring supply in selection.

Funding Information

• Maximum €15,000 for the development of a plan for a film in the Research & Experiment category and necessary initial test shots, including any contributions for involved creative or technical experts or heads of department.
• Maximum €5,000 for an external script coach/expert advisor.
• If the applicant is a production company: max. 17.5% in producer fee & overhead on the total development costs deemed eligible for subsidy by the Fund.

Eligibility Criteria

• The applicant is an independent production company (a legal entity, not a sole proprietorship or general partnership) that has been established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis.
• The production company is represented by a producer who, as majority producer, has been primarily responsible for the realisation and release of at least one independent, non-commissioned film production (long or short) in the professional Dutch film and/or television sector.
• The producer representing the production company is not the same person as the director and/or screenwriter of the film.
• Only when the intended fund contribution for realization is less than €50,000:
  • A director who produces the film himself can also independently submit a development and realization application. In the opinion of the board, the director must have demonstrable and sufficient production experience in realizing and releasing artistic and experimental films in the professional Dutch film and/or television sector or visual arts circuit. Previous productions that were created in the context of a training course, competition or self-education will not be taken into account.
  • A producer who meets the entry requirements for development in this category can also independently submit a realization application.

  • Financing plan
  • Option agreement or deal memo with screenwriter and/or storyboard artists and/or director.
  • If applicable: Option agreement for existing work (e.g. with publisher)
  • Chamber of Commerce extract
  • Corporate vision (only mandatory for first submission to the Film Fund)
