The Indonesian Next Generation Journalist Network on Korea is a platform for aspiring professional journalists in Indonesia to gain deeper insights on Indonesia-Korea relations that are still less touched on due to limited access to information.
In 2024, the program will bring together fifteen (15) selected journalists to participate in a capacity-building program. Journalists will take part in a series of workshops in Jakarta, where they will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions with Indonesian and Korean scholars, policymakers, and practitioners. The program will allow the journalist to spend a week-long visit to Korea at the end.
During the program, journalists are encouraged to enter the public discourse through article analysis publications. The objective is to improve Indonesians’ understanding of Korea by incorporating a discussion on Korean Affairs and Indonesia-Korea relations into public discourse.
Objectives
- The objectives of this program are:
- Strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea by leveraging the role of the media in increasing public knowledge and understanding of Korea in Indonesia;
- Provide journalists the time and resources they need to obtain a thorough understanding and relevant knowledge of Indonesia-Korea-related issues;
- Facilitate an open and constructive dialogue between Indonesian Journalists and Korean experts or practitioners;
- Establish a pool of committed Indonesian Journalists with a shared interest in Korean Issues.
Program Activities
- Capacity Building:Â Journalists will get substantial insight and information from experts, policymakers, and practitioners.
- Network Connection:Â Journalist Fellows in this program will have the opportunity to connect with relevant and strategic actors on Indonesia-Korea relations
- Article Production:Â Selected journalists in this program are encouraged to produce an article analysis and publish it on the media platforms they represent.
Expectation
- Selected journalists are expected to attend and participate in all physical workshops.
- Selected journalists are encouraged to engage in interactive dialogue during the workshops.
- Selected journalists are required to use their media platforms for article contributions before the deadline set by the organizers.
- Selected journalists are encouraged to participate in Korea-related discussions organized by FPCI, if invited.
- Selected journalists are expected to join the visit to Korea after the workshops.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be Indonesian citizens and domiciled in the Jabodetabek area.
- Applicants must have at least 2 years of experience in the journalism field.
- Applicants must be committed to attending the six workshops that will be convened and participating in the post-program activities.
- Applicants must be fluent in English, both verbal and written.
