CFPs: Expansion of Independent Content Production (Wave II) – Ukraine

Deadline: 31 March 2024

NGO “Internews-Ukraine”, with the support of the international organization Internews, announces an open competition for participation in the second wave of the local component of the “Expanding Production of Independent Content” project.

Internews-Ukraine invites independent national and regional media, as well as producers of YouTube content from all over Ukraine, to participate.

The Purpose and Tasks of the Competition

  • The goal of the project is to support the formation of a strong independent media sector in the region that resists manipulation and control by influential people.
  • Among the tasks is to produce and distribute high-quality and reliable multimedia content that highlights important issues for local communities and counters misinformation.
  • The topics of the materials should relate to the life of Ukrainians in the conditions of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and the challenges they face, for example:
    • Reconstruction and restoration of Ukraine.
    • Environmental protection and war-related ecocliques.
    • Support of Ukraine by Western partners.
    • Stories from everyday life.
    • Stories about the military, prisoners of war and volunteer initiatives.
    • Life of IDPs: adaptation in new communities, success stories, social and financial support.
    • Materials on historical and cultural topics, which are timed to significant events or tell about the lives of writers, artists, musicians and other cultural figures.
    • Modern Ukrainian culture.

Funding Information

  • Contest winners will receive grants of up to USD 7,000 for the production of six materials and their adaptation for distribution in social networks, as well as consulting support. Funds cover production costs, crew salaries and other necessary expenses.

Expected Results

  • Each winner must produce six multimedia materials. They can be combined into a media project that will be published in a separate section on the media site (creating a landing page is welcome) or in a separate playlist on the YouTube channel . Content should be interesting, accessible, with multimedia and interactive elements such as video, audio, photos, infographics, text and quizzes.
  • Each multimedia material must be adapted for publication on social networks : visual cards (carousels) for articles, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels for videos, Stories for promoting materials, etc.
  • Media partners must publish one multimedia material per month on their own resources, in particular in social networks, during the entire period of project implementation (from May to October 31, 2024). A detailed content plan must be agreed with “Internews-Ukraine” after the announcement of the winners. After publishing materials, participants must share views and key results of projects.
  • “Internews-Ukraine” also has the right to publish and distribute the produced materials.
  • Media partners should participate in all activities provided by the project, such as consultations with media experts, quarterly flash talks, online and offline meetings, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Independent national or regional media or producers of YouTube content that have the status of a legal entity (GO, LLC, FOP, etc.).
  • At least two years of presence on the media market.
  • Flexibility and ability to complete tasks according to defined terms and conditions.
  • Independent editorial policy and/or clear adherence to professional journalistic standards and ethics.
