CLEA: Residency-Mission for Journalists 2024

Deadline: 28 January 2024

As part of the Local Artistic Education Contract (CLEA), the community of communes of Pays de Mormal and its partners are launching a call for applications for journalists for a residency-mission for the purposes of media education, information and freedom of expression.

Aims

More precisely, the mission residence will aim:

  • to introduce the profession of journalist and its current issues;
  • to raise awareness of the issues of freedom of expression;
  • to show and understand the information production process and to help decipher it;
  • to encourage the development of a conscious and responsible practice of different media, social networks and the Internet in general.

What is the principle of this call for applications?

  • Driven by the desire to reduce inequalities in access to art and culture, the ambitious objective is the generalization of artistic and cultural education for children, adolescents and young adults of its kind territory.
  • For the 10th season of CLEA 2024/2025, artists with the inspirational theme “Creating connections, living better together, promoting openness to others through the mixing of cultures and cultural practices” will be selected by a jury. All areas of artistic expression are considered.
  • In addition to these artistic presences, the aforementioned partners wanted to offer a residency-mission intended for a journalist, from any media medium (written press, radio, audiovisual or web), to come and reside in the territory. The mission-residency which is the subject of this call for applications will be awarded to a journalist keen to raise awareness among residents, particularly young people, of information and more particularly of image.

Funding Information

  • The selected journalist benefits from a residency allowance in the amount of 12,000 euros net (allowance calculated on the basis of 3,000 euros net per month). It is specified here that the total employer cost for the duration of the residency (17 and a half weeks) cannot under any circumstances exceed 24,000 euros.
  • The travel costs of the resident journalist in the territory of action (on the basis of a fixed price of €1,000 including tax for 4 months) and the costs relating to accommodation are covered (on the basis of a package of €4,000 including tax).

Support

  • It is the culture department of the community of municipalities which will be in close contact with the other partners in the initiative of the residence-mission, the operator of the action.
  • As such, the culture department of the community of municipalities, operating structure:
  • accompanies the resident journalist to guide him in his discovery of the territory;
  • ensures good conditions for his stay and work;
  • technically organizes the residence with the assistance of the municipalities as well as that of cultural and associative structures, and with educational establishments wishing to join in the action
  • leads the steering committee.

Eligibility Criteria

  • If you are a professional journalist, French or foreign, wishing to support the different teams of professionals who are, on the territory of the community of communes of Pays de Mormal, in charge or responsibility for children, adolescents or young people adults, in school/university time or after school/university time, in their desire for collective dynamics in favor of media education, information and freedom of expression can apply.
  • The candidate journalist, being French or foreign, already has a substantial production to his credit and must be able to be fully involved in this particular type of action that the residency-mission represents.
  • The selected journalist is required to actually reside in the territory and to make himself available, exclusively, for the mission. He or she must be independent in his or her travels and have a personal vehicle and therefore a valid driving license.
