Hedgerows Ireland wants you to send them a photo that highlights some aspect of late summer/autumn hedgerows. This could be of a length of hedgerow showing off its shape and overall appearance, or a photo of a plant, bird, mammal, insect, or some other feature which illustrates hedgerow wildlife. Your photo could be a composite of different images in one single picture… They are excited to see what catches your eye!
Hedgerows Ireland is a national body dedicated to all aspects of hedgerow welfare. They are running a hedgerow-themed photography competition, kindly sponsored by the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association. Their hope is to encourage interest and pride in this important feature of our natural and cultural heritage.
Ireland’s native hedgerows are one of their most important landscape features, supporting 95% of the wildlife in their farmed countryside, as well as providing a range of other services. These include shelter, shade, flood and drought reduction, nutrient buffering, and very significant carbon storage.

Funding Information
- There will be three prizes in each category:
- First prize: 500 euro
- Second prize: 250 euro
- Third prize: 125 euro
Eligibility Criteria
- Judging will be by a panel of specialists. The judges’ decision will be final.
- No photos of nesting birds, nests, or chicks in nests etc will be accepted, and no animal, plant or habitat to be disturbed or damaged for the purpose of your photographs.
- By submitting an entry, you undertake and warrant that you took the photo(s) yourself and you are the sole and exclusive owner of the copyright and all other rights of the photos. You are personally responsible if the rights of a third party are violated. The consequences hereof will be for the photographer only the organizers of the competition are not responsible.
- Use of a false name or address will automatically disqualify entrants from competition.
- The organizers have the right to use the images you submit for marketing, education, information, and other purposes. By entering you give permission for your photograph to be published online and in print by both Hedgerows Ireland and the ICMSA.
- The winners may be required to participate in publicity connected with this Competition and it is a condition of entry that the winners agree to their winning entry, name, and county of residence being made publicly available.
- By entering, you undertake that the photo(s) you submit were taken in Ireland.
- You may enter more than one photo but you must use a separate entry form for each image.
- For entrants under-18 years-old, your parent or guardian must complete the relevant consent box for your entry to be valid.
