You can apply to the Film Fund for the realization of a cinematographically distinctive long documentary (longer than 70 minutes) for cinema screening.
The Fund selects on the basis of content and cinematographic quality and a diverse, daring and relevant offering. The substantive and artistic quality of the maker’s previous work are taken into account.
The Netherlands Film Fund is one of the cultural funds established by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science. The Fund strengthens Dutch film culture along the policy lines: talent development, innovation, internationalization and professionalization. As an independent administrative body, the Film Fund not only implements film policy, but also plays a role in policy development for the ministers involved.
The Film Fund provides subsidies for dynamism and innovation in the film sector and provides financial contributions to the development, realization and distribution of feature films, documentaries, animated films, research & experiments and short films by new and established talent. The Fund also contributes to film festivals, film meetings, talent and education hubs throughout the Netherlands.
The Film Fund also organizes international activities aimed at broadening and deepening the international network and profiling talents and projects at international festivals, labs and co-production markets. Through research and analysis within an international context, the Film Fund also contributes to knowledge building about the sector.
Funding Information
- Maximum €275,000 for the realization of a documentary by a director, including the earmarked amount for audio description and subtitling to make films accessible to the visually and hearing impaired via all platforms.
- After the contribution has been granted, the board can, prior to the implementation agreement and upon request, grant an earmarked contribution for:
- Max. €6,000 for the development of an impact and/or outreach plan by a (film) professional (for example an impact producer or a publicist);
- Maximum €6,000 for sales deliveries, including an international press kit – international sales (based on a sales agreement)
- A maximum of 75% of the total costs for marketing and associated promotion up to a maximum of € 20,000 for the costs borne by the production company.

Eligibility Criteria
- A production company (a legal entity, i.e. not a sole proprietorship or partnership) that has been established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland for at least two years and produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis.
- The production company is represented by a producer who, as a major producer, has been primarily responsible for realizing at least one full-length documentary with a cinema release in the Netherlands. The producer representing the production company is not the same person as the director of the documentary.
- The Fund gives priority to projects by experienced directors.
