The Gabo Foundation in alliance with the Center for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) and the Latin American Center for Investigative Journalism (CLIP), and with the support of The Reva & David Logan Foundation, convene the third edition of the ‘Logan Workshop on Investigative Practices ‘, to be held virtually from Monday, January 29 to Friday, February 2, 2024.
16 people will be selected to participate in the workshop.
Objectives
- This virtual workshop’s main objective is to offer tools aimed at strengthening investigative practice in Latin America.
- Its purpose is to encourage the creation of stories of impact and public interest that address issues such as abuse of power, corruption, organized crime and other irregularities that deserve notable attention.
- The workshop consists of five virtual sessions, each lasting a maximum of two and a half hours. During these sessions, participants will acquire fundamental knowledge to carry out research based on digital resources, as well as to use methodologies and tools for verification, processing and visualization of data, as well as intelligence from publicly accessible sources.
- Additionally, some of the most pressing ethical and safety challenges that arise in the context of such research will be addressed.

- Identification of the research topic, formulation of hypotheses, collection, preservation, verification, analysis and publication of information.
- Journalistic ethics.
- Information security and risk assessment.
- Data collection, organization, analysis and visualization.

Who can participate?
- Journalists who work for a media outlet or work as freelancers, communicators, academics and members of organizations with an interest in improving their research techniques, so that they result in stories of high impact and public interest.
