Taboom Media is inviting reporters, editors, publishers, and bloggers based in Africa and proficient in English to apply for this week-long online reporting workshop on covering LGBTQI+ issues and religion.
Participants must be open-minded to the issues at hand and affiliated with news operations where they can contribute positively to the accurate and ethical reporting of how religion intersects with sexual and gender minorities. Participants will be required to attend all workshop sessions, complete nightly homework assignments, and produce at least one story for publication, broadcast or other distribution by January 2024.
Schedule
- This online course will take place 27 November – 1 December 2023 with daily Zoom sessions from 13:00 – 15:00 and 16:00 – 17:00 SAST.
- Participants must fully participate in all sessions for their entire duration.
- Daily homework assignments must be completed and submitted by 22:00 SAST each day.
- Participants will be required to produce one story by 31 January 2024.
- Financial incentives will be provided upon story publication.
Logistics
- Participants must use WhatsApp, Zoom, and Google Forms for sessions and assignments, must connect to all sessions with video turned on using a laptop/computer (not a smartphone), and must have reliable Internet connections of at least 1 MB/second.

- They will provide data stipends at the end of the workshop to all active participants.
