The Young Irish Film Makers are calling on all young filmmakers and aspiring writers aged 16-25 to take part in the Scriptwriting Competition which could see your film being bought by YIFM and made during the National Youth Film & Animation School in August.
Prize Information
- 4 winners will receive a small cash prize, a writing credit under a Screen Ireland produced short and have their film made in the National Youth Film & Animation School this summer.
- If selected the winners will also get the opportunity to attend scriptwriting workshop sessions with an industry professional screenwriter who will help them craft, redraft and finalize their pieces to be shot for the big screen.
Submission Criteria
- To enter please submit your script and a 500 word story outline with the following parameters:
- No more than 5 page script.
- No more than 3 main characters.
- Set in present day provincial Ireland.
- Scripts should avoid excessive violence, any nudity or drug references.
Terms and Conditions
- Initial applications will only be accepted from individuals.
- Only one entry permitted per applicant.
- Story outlines must be supplied in the form requested. Proposals exceeding the prescribed length may result in exclusion from consideration.
- Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Copyright for the script will remain with the author.
- Copyright for the final film will remain with Young Irish Film Makers.
- Proposals submitted must be (a) wholly original to the applicant, or (b) have a clear and unencumbered assignment of rights to the applicant if based on existing work (e.g. play, short story books)
- Submissions should be sent in PDF format only.
- Project short listing is on a competitive basis. At the discretion of the selection panel, a maximum of 4 projects will be selected from the validly received proposals to progress for further development under the scheme. The decisions of the shortlisting panel are final. It will not be possible to provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates.
- Canvassing support from YIFM will immediately disqualify applications.
- Unsuccessful applicants will be eligible to re-submit to future YIFM short film contests.
- Projects must be capable of being shot during the National Youth Film & Animation School with the resources available to the National Youth Film School.
- All applicants must confirm their acceptance to these terms and conditions before their applications will be accepted and processed.
