BredaPhoto invites photographers and artists to submit projects for the BredaPhoto Festival 2024 – Journeys.
BredaPhoto exhibits visual stories that inspire, move, confront, raise new questions, and demonstrate that photography is the artistic medium at the heart of society. The BredaPhoto Festival is a biennial where you get the chance to view the work of national and international top photographers and visual artists at unique indoor and outdoor locations in Breda. For seven weeks, the city is a life-size canvas that gives the works an extra dimension.
In 2024 the BredaPhoto Festival returns from 13 September to 3 November 2024 and like every other edition artists that work with photography have the chance to propose their work that fits with the theme through the Open Call.
Theme
- The theme for the 2024 edition of the BredaPhoto Festival is: Journeys.
- At a time when physical travel can come at a high cost to the planet, BredaPhoto Festival 2024 focuses on the journey as a symbol. Be it a personal search for one’s own identity and a meaningful life or a collective journey in search of freedom and space to breathe.
- Journeys strive to bring different stories together within their multitude, seeking to create connecting paths in-between, and to inspire the viewer towards finding new and alternative routes of their own.
What winners receive?
- Selected photographers and artists will be invited to showcase their project during the BredaPhoto Festival 2024.
- Opportunities for selected photographers and artists:
- Show your work at a leading international photo festival in the Netherlands.
- Share your work with the audience of national and international photography lovers, professionals, students, curators, art galleries and press.
- Submission review by professionals from the photography field.
- Featuring across festival/partner social networks and websites.
- Personal exhibition project at the BredaPhoto 2024.
- Long-term promotion by the festival.
- Opportunity to participate in the BredaPhoto programme of talks and tours and (networking) events.
- Connect with other participants through various public and private events during the festival.

Eligibility Criteria
- Photographers and artists that work with the medium of photography are invited to send in their proposal that fits with the theme for this edition of the festival through this open call via Picter.
- BredaPhoto invites lens-based projects including, but not limited to photo, video or digital projects, film and moving image and installations.
- They welcome inter/multidisciplinary collaborations, in both content and form, and encourage works that rest on collaboration especially image-makers that may be working with individuals outside of the arts, in order to bring forth narratives that are novel and relevant for their times.
