The Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) and Jamlab Africa will be hosting the annual joint CTIF/Jamfest conference between the 16th and 19th of October 2023 to exhibit various Civic Tech and Media Innovation initiatives virtually and in person throughout the month of October.
This year’s exhibition’s primary focus is to showcase African civic tech and media innovations that demonstrate African ingenuity and adaptability in difficult climates. In line with this year’s conference theme, the exhibition will focus on innovators who are helping AfrIca #Flow.
For the showcase, they are inviting civic tech innovators who have something exciting to share which may include:
- Impact Stories — practical experiences, results, and lessons learned
- Newbies — Starting out stories by new innovators in civic tech/journalism & media
- Cutting edge — new methods/tools/techniques, experimental projects, etc.
- Change-makers — Examples of where people are creatively solving their own problems through data / digital innovation around Africa
- Ecosystem supporters and enablers — Toolkits, training, services, etc. that are enabling civic tech
- Theme focus — This year, they particularly invite innovators creatively using Artificial Intelligence/Machine learning
The CTIF/Jamfest annual conferences are intended to enable civic tech and media innovation communities to engage face-to-face, learn about innovations, tools, and techniques, share experiences, and meet potential collaborators. The event presents an opportunity for attendees to gain an overview of the developments in the civic tech and media innovation sectors in Africa and the rest of the world.
The exhibition will mostly be virtual, via the event showcase platform; however they will also have a small physical exhibition at Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct in Johannesburg, South Africa for selected exhibitors for the duration of the forum/festival.
Ideally, each exhibit comprises showcase materials that give a rich exposure to the initiative being presented, including for example: posters, slideshow, demo or marketing video /animation, photos, any documentation (report, article, brochure, etc.), links, etc., plus follow-up contact information.
Objectives of the Exhibition
- To provide an interactive platform for sharing practical knowledge and ideas on African civic tech and media innovation;
- To showcase the current and potential contribution of technology and its civic uses;
- To provide a platform for networking for the African civic tech and media innovation communities;
- To provide access to #AfrIcaFlows conference attendees to directly engage with practitioners of civic tech and media innovation initiatives, ask questions, engage, and build possible collaborations where civic / media and digital innovations overlap.
They hope to have
- At least 20 exhibitors from various African countries contribute to the virtual exhibition by populating individual exhibitor booths with organisation information, showcasing their civic tech innovations that will be live on the CTIF platform for the full month of October.
- At least 5–10 in-person exhibitions selected for display onsite, at Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct between the 16th and 19th of October 2023.
