Prix Photo Aliança Francesa Photography Competition (France)

Take part in the 13th edition of the Prix Photo Aliança Francesa.

Through current themes, an echo of the major issues of the time, they wish to value original, experimental artistic proposals, whether abstract or documentary, that offer a different perspective. An exhibition will be presented following the results of the competition at the Galeria da Aliança Françasa in Rio de Janeiro and will continue on tour through Alianças Françaises and its partners throughout Brazil.

For this edition of the Prix Photo Aliança Francesa, the theme “(In) Movement” proposes to question how photography captures movement(s) in its most diverse forms and meanings.

Award Information

  • Artistic Residency Award in France
    • Scholarship for a creative residency worth €6,000 and acquisition of six photographs for the collection “Un fonds photographique brésilien à la BnF” from the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF), offered by Initial LABO in partnership with the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
    • International flight with Air France;
    • 3-month artistic residency in Paris as part of the “Institut français x Cité internationale des arts” program;
    • Network of contacts and professional support by Réseau Diagonal, the Institut français de Paris and the Cité internationale des arts.

Benefits

  • Supported by Initial LABO, the winner of the Artistic Residency Award in France will receive:
    • Grant: In the amount of €6,000 (six thousand euros), including taxes, distributed as follows:
      • Financial support in the amount of €5,000 (five thousand euros), including taxes, relating to the Artistic Residency Grant, financed by Société Métropole represented by Initial LABO, patron of the BnF, and paid by the establishment.
      • Integration of the winner’s work into the collection of the engravings and photography department of the French National Library (BnF): At the end of the winner’s Artistic Residency, the BnF will acquire six printed images and six related digital files, selected by the photographer and the curator responsible for the sector of contemporary photography by BnF. For the acquisition of the works, the winner will receive the value of €1,000 (one thousand euros), including taxes, financed by Société Métropole, represented by Initial LABO, patron of the BnF, and paid by the establishment. These photographs may be selected among all the images produced during the Artistic Residency in France and/or among any other previous photographic series made by the winner.

Rules

  • The Prix Photo Aliança Francesa, hereinafter referred to as awards, is a cultural and artistic competition promoted by the French Alliances network, which delegates the organization of the competition to the French Alliance of Rio de Janeiro.
  • The Award is intended for any and all photographers, individuals, over 18 years of age, residing in the national territory.
  • The participation of any employee or relative, up to the third degree, of the members of the Organization Committee, Awards Committee or Sponsors, as well as any people directly involved in the execution of the competition, in particular employees and collaborators, is prohibited.
  • Only images that are authored by the person responsible for entering Prix Photo 2024 can be evaluated. In the case of entries made with images produced by other people or minors, the entry will be immediately disqualified.
  • In the case of registration for the Artistic Residency Award in France, in addition to sending the 10 photographs, it is necessary to send a textual document presenting the artistic residency proposal, which must contain the following information:
    • Description of the artistic project to be carried out during the Artistic Residency period in France;
    • Mini bio of the artist;
    • Preliminary schedule of actions to be carried out during the artistic residency;
    • Argumentative paragraph, explaining the reasons that lead you to want to carry out the artistic residency specifically in France;
  • Knowledge of the language (French or English) at an intermediate level is required, equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Languages. Obtaining an official language proficiency certification is not mandatory.
