Deadline: 1 August 2024
Submissions are now open for the “Expressions of Fatherhood: A Photographic Exploration” initiative to highlight the meaningful relationships established through caregiving and challenge traditional stereotypes of masculinity.
This call invites you to explore the various expressions of fatherhood and the provision of care services, recognizing that the provision of care services by men goes beyond biological or adoptive fatherhood and encompasses functions such as uncles, grandparents, coaches and friends.
Despite progress, gaps in gender equality persist, making the active participation of men as allies and agents of change necessary. Women’s participation in the labor market, the unequal burden of unpaid care work, limited political representation, unsafe work environments, and disparities in sexual health, reproductive health, and human rights contribute to the problem.
One way to promote healthier masculinities is to encourage men to take on the role of caregiver and, specifically, to actively participate in raising children. This benefits children and families and contributes to the mental and emotional well-being of men.
The selected photographs will be highlighted in an exhibition organized by various institutions, including the Organization of American States, underscoring the importance of promoting healthy, equitable and non-violent masculinities in the region.
