Deadline: 31 March 2024
Applications are now open for the TRIGGER – Nuremberg Festival for Politics and Human Rights in Theatre and Performance.
TRIGGER is a new, political theater festival for Nuremberg. The focus is on human rights, their protection and the resulting demands for empowerment, diversity and democracy.
TRIGGER presents plays and performative productions from all over Germany and beyond and invites performing artists to face the public and social discourse in Nuremberg.
The festival center and venue is the Z-Bau Nuremberg. There they want to enter into an exchange with visitors and artists in political talks, audience discussions and panel discussions. They will discuss productions and ask themselves what contribution theater must make to society in order to protect human rights.
TRIGGER has announced a competition for playwrights in german language. An international jury will read the submitted plays and select one text, which will then been read for the first time by actors in front of an audience at the festival. The prize is endowed with 3000 euros.
TRIGGER is organized by the artists’ collective Theater Zwangsvorstellung e.V. in cooperation with the Z-Bau Haus für Gegenwartskultur.
Eligibility Criteria
- They are looking for innovative productions that deal explicitly with the political, societal and social developments in today’s world in a regional, national or global context. The focus of their festival is on the topic of human rights and on the question of how theatre and art can contribute to their protection. They see their festival as a meeting place for artists and audiences to discuss pressing social problems and human rights violations together.
- They are looking for full-length formats as well as for performative and/or cross-genre installations and interactions.
- The call is aimed at professional independent groups and independent artists. Unfortunately, productions from the fields of children’s and youth theatre as well as amateur theatre cannot be considered. Only one production per group may be submitted. The production must not have been shown in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region in the six months prior to the festival.
