The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) has announced submissions for the Weather Photographer of the Year Competition to showcase the world’s most striking weather and climate photographs and provides an international platform to raise awareness about the environmental issues putting the planet at risk.
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today, and its impact on the environment and human health significantly affects sustainable economic growth and the future of society. The competition, hosted by the Royal Meteorological Society, provides an ongoing commentary on the fragility and beauty of the planet.

Funding Information
- Standard Chartered Weather Photographer of the Year
- The Weather Photographer of the Year category offers a ÂŁ5,000 cash prize to the best overall photograph showcasing the beauty and power of weather, open to photographers worldwide.
- Standard Chartered Smartphone Weather Photographer of the Year
- Smartphone Weather Photographer of the Year offers a cash prize of ÂŁ2,500 to the winner, and is for photographs taken on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
- Standard Chartered Young Weather Photographer of the Year
- Young Weather Photographer of the Year offers a cash prize of ÂŁ750 and is open to anyone under the age of 18 years old to submit their weather and climate-related photographs.
- Standard Chartered Climate Award
- The Climate Award offers a prize of ÂŁ1,000 to the photograph that best tells a compelling story about climate change and its impacts.
- The winning photo will be selected from the three main categories of the competition and must contain a visual representation of weather and climate change.
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers of any nationality but is subject to laws of England and Wales. Entrants from outside the UK must adhere to local laws.
- Note:Â Due to the war in Ukraine, and in unity with other arts competitions, the Standard Chartered Weather Photographer of the Year competition will be suspending photographers living in Russia or Belarus from submitting entries into this year’s competition, as well as any photographs taken in those countries. Those photos will not be judged. The position will be upheld until there is a peaceful resolution to these hostile actions.
- The Young Weather Photographer of the Year category is only open to photographers under the age of 18 years on 18 June 2024.
- Entrants under the age of 13 at the closing date of the competition must gain the permission of a parent, guardian or appropriate adult to enter the competition. It is the responsibility of each entrant (and the entrant’s parent, guardian or appropriate adult) to ensure that they have read and will abide by these rules and Zealous’s terms and conditions. By submitting an entry, each entrant (and the entrant’s parent, guardian or appropriate adult) agrees to these rules, that their entry complies with these rules, and that they will be liable to the Promoter and their licensees in respect of any damages or losses incurred as a breach of the Rules.
- Employees or agents of the Royal Meteorological Society, or Zealous, their families or other persons connected with this promotion, employees directly connected to the competition at Standard Chartered, or The Week Junior Science + Nature, or ITV Weather are not eligible to enter. Members of the Royal Meteorological Society are eligible to enter the competition. Wider employees of Standard Chartered, ITV Weather, and The Week Junior Science + Nature employees and their families are eligible to enter.
- If eligible, photographers are allowed to submit a maximum of five images per category.
- When submitting a photograph, please provide the highest possible resolution available and provide further detail to tell them more about you and your photograph. They cannot accept entries by email or post.
