Contest Objectives

• To support and promote high standards of photojournalism and documentary photography in Russia and around the world.
• To promote photography and raise public awareness about photojournalism.
• To support young photographers.

Categories

The 2024 contest will showcase categories for which young photographers can vie for awards:

• Top News- Important events in the life of individuals and nations as a whole are the main subject of entries in the category: major political and social events; reports from war zones and places struck by natural disasters; decisive moments in people’s lives.
• Sports- This category involves entries, which captured moments in sport: victories of athletes and dramatic losses; daily sports training; the beauty of sports competitions.
• My Planet- This category involves entries reflecting the entire multicolored palette of topics and images from all over the world. The author’s task is to show an everyday life kaleidoscope in its timeless beauty and harmony, uniting scenes from everyday life; the life of big cities and small towns; nature pictures; ethnographic and religious holidays.
• Portrait, A Hero of Time- This category involves entries such as individual or group portraits of people. Photos can be documentary and posed. The determining factor in this category is the author’s ability to reveal the inner world of his characters, express their mental qualities and character through the uniqueness of their appearance and looks as a whole.
• Top View: Single photographs taken from a bird’s eye view are accepted in this category. Photographs can depict plants and animals, city life, people, moments from everyday life and sporting events, and abstract imagery. The decisive factor is the shooting angle. Images can be taken using a quadcopter, a photo camera, or a mobile phone camera. They are waiting for breathtaking views and surprising stories.

Prize Information

• The Grand Prize winner will receive RUB 700,000 (seven hundred thousand).
• The first-place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 125,000 (one hundred twenty-five thousand).
• The second-place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 100,000 (one hundred thousand).
• The third-place winner in each category for an individual Photo Image or a Series of Photo Images will receive RUB 75,000 (seventy- five thousand).
• Contest Sponsors and/or Partners may also offer additional prizes.

Eligibility Criteria

• The Contest is open to Russian and foreign nationals who are professional photographers.
• The age limits for Contest Participants: at least 18 and no more than 33 years old at the time of the Contestant’s submission of Photo Image(s) to the Contest.
• The Contestant may submit only one Photo Image (Series of Images) in each category.
• Entry for the competition is free of charge. Determination of the Winners and Runners-up of the Competition is not accidental. The Contest is not a lottery.
• In the Sports and Top View categories, only single entries are accepted.

Requirements

• JPG files with compression from 10 and 2,200 px in size; up to 5,700 px on the long side.
  • File size: maximum 20 Mb.
  • Files must contain all EXIF data.
• Photo Images accepted for the Contest must be created on or after January 1, 2023. As an exception, a Series may be accepted that was started in the previous years; however, the last Photo Image must have been created in 2023−2024.
• Contest Participants can submit single Photo Images or a Series. The maximum number of Photo Images in a Series: 12 (twelve).
• Photo Images with a frame, collages, heavily processed Images are not accepted. Photo montage, erasing, replacing or changing of parts of Images are not acceptable.

Ineligible

Entries will be disqualified at the prequalification stage if they:

• contain unethical and/or obscene expressions/images and erotic and/or pornographic information; or
• contain obscene and/or abusive images, including those regarding an individual’s sex, race, nationality, occupation, social background, age and native tongue, official state symbols (flags, state emblems and national anthems), religious symbols, and cultural heritage sites; or
• contain calls for violence, promote terrorism, extremism and fascism and incite ethnic, racial, religious and other hatred; or
• contain advertisements; or
• offend the dignity of other Contest Participants or other people; or
• infringe upon a third party’s rights.
