Deadline: 18 October 2024
THE New Institute Centre for Environmental Humanities (NICHE) at Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia invites applications for a fellowship in: Deep Ecology through Visual Art: Rights of Nature from the Dolomites to the Venice Lagoon.
This research is part of the broader programme launched by NICHE on deep ecology and the Italian and European network on the rights of nature, supported by the Ecology Agenda of the Italian Buddhist Union. Through the visual arts (in particular: film, documentary, video essay) the research intends to examine the concept of the rights of nature, taking as a case study the territory that starts from the Dolomites and arrives at the Venice Lagoon. The study will investigate the most significant environments of this territory, above all river environments, focusing on the relationship between human and non-human communities that define its ecosystem. The research will have to:
- Present, through the visual arts, the state of health of the waters of the territory examined (both surface and groundwater), its communities and, more broadly, the ecosystem itself;
- To map the most significant places in the territory, i.e. the Piave river, the Tagliamento river, the Adige river and the Grave di Ciano, with particular reference to the expansion reservoirs and their consequences on the area;
- Documenting the work of activists and public art initiatives in the area, encouraging dialogue and collaboration with younger communities;
- Identify initiatives that help to think of water bodies as subjects of rights;
- Include video productions.
Funding Information
- The research fellowship amounts to 19,367 Euros per year, including taxes and social charges.
- Duration of contract: 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Prospective candidates are expected to hold a master’s degree. Preferred fields of specialization are: degree in Cinematography (documentary, filmography, photography) and previous production of films, documentaries and videos related to the field of research, with particular attention to the territory of the Lagoon of Venice and environmental issues.
- Ca’ Foscari encourages applications from researchers with positive evaluation in all the criteria in individual proposals such as Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships/ERC Starting Grants/FIRB (Italian Fund for basic research investments)/SIR (Scientific Young Independence Research) or similar. Researchers having successfully completed Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships/ERC Starting Grants/FIRB (Italian Fund for basic research investments)/SIR (Scientific Young Independence Research) or similar funded projects are warmly encouraged to apply.
