Program Details
- The 2024 class of fellows will participate in a six-week virtual curriculum with selected mentors representing broadcast, radio, print and digital media.
- This innovative experience is designed to leverage the inclusivity and accessibility of online learning while allowing fellows to continue with classwork, jobs, internships and other responsibilities.
- Additionally, fellows will participate in the Indigenous Media Conference, network with other Indigenous journalists and strengthen their reporting skills.
Responsibilities
- If selected to participate in the program, fellows will be responsible for the following:
- Attend regular virtual meetings with assigned mentor
- Join and participate regularly in the 2024 IJF Slack channel
- Participate in all planned virtual trainings (tentatively scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 3 to July 10, excluding June 19)
- Participate in online check-ins throughout the fellowship
- Attend the Indigenous Media Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from July 23-28
- Pitch and produce a reporting assignment in partnership with assigned mentor
- Professional conduct: all fellows are required to be at all meetings on time and to act professionally. Failure to comply with fellowship rules will result in dismissal from the program.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any current Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, First Nation, Inuit or Métis college or graduate students pursuing degrees in broadcast, print or digital journalism are eligible to apply.
- Preference will be given to college juniors, seniors and graduate students.
- Recent graduates (no more than six months past graduation) are also eligible to apply.
