The CJF-CBC Indigenous Journalism Fellowships are offered to three First Nation, Inuit or Métis journalists with one to ten years of experience to explore an issue of interest, while being hosted for one month at CBC Indigenous in Winnipeg or Montreal.
The award aims to foster better comprehension of Indigenous issues in Canada’s major media and community outlets.

- Successful applicants will:
- Spend one month with CBC Indigenous in Winnipeg or Montreal.
- Write or produce a piece or series upon completion of their fellowship opportunity, which will be considered for publication or broadcast by CBC News.
Funding information
- Fellows will be paid a $10,000 stipend issued in two (2) installments.
Eligibility Criteria
- These fellowships will take place in person at CBC Indigenous in Winnipeg or with the Indigenous team at CBC Montreal.
- Candidates will be responsible for securing their own accommodation in the host city.
- The Fellowship will take place starting in September 2025 and will conclude in mid-October.
- Successful Fellows will be asked to complete a post-Fellowship report highlighting their work and experience to be published on the CJF website and in CJF communications.
Judging Criteria
- The judging panel consists of four to eight jurors who review all submitted entries through an online portal, rank the entries and then attend a meeting with their rankings to agree upon the recipients of the award.
- The recipients are announced in April or May, and are recognized at the annual CJF Awards virtual ceremony on June 12, 2025.
