German-Polish Bursary Programme for Journalists

Purpose

• IJP is a non-profit organization offering journalist exchange programmes between Germany and more than 40 other countries and regions. The purpose of these exchanges is to allow participating journalists to experience their host countries from a correspondent’s perspective, exchange knowledge and deepen their network while working in and reporting on a foreign country.
• Journalists, who are granted the climate & energy bursary, will receive a deeper and more detailed insight into the field and get the opportunity to work and specialize topically and internationally alike. They are also welcome to pursue a transnational research on a common topic during their fellowship.

About Fellowship

• The programme starts with a thematic introductory conference (mid June 2024). Subsequently, the participating journalists will begin their stay at their respective journalistic host organizations. Journalists from Germany will stay at a host media in Poland for the time of the fellowship while the journalists from Poland will spend their time in a media network in Germany. These media are selected by IJP in consultation with the fellows. While being embedded partly in the workflow of the host media, the fellow will work on their own journalistic projects and mainly report for media in their home country. During the six to eight weeks of the stay, the journalists will get to know the host country better, establish contacts to local journalists and deepen his or her knowledge about climate and energy issues.
• The programme concludes with a final meeting (mid September 2024). The participants are asked to deliver a three-page report of their experiences. It should also include all contributions produced during their stay. After the exchange, they encourage the participants to stay in touch with each other through the IJP alumni network through which they will have the chance to meet many of IJP’s former fellow in Germany and more than 40 other countries.

Funding Information

• Each fellow will receive a stipend of 3.800 Euro to help cover costs for accommodation and personal expenses during his or her stay. The participant must cover any additional costs.

Eligibility Criteria

• The bursary offers this opportunity for up to ten journalists from Germany and Poland with a passion for climate and energy topics.
• The application is open to any journalist, blogger or documentary filmmaker working for any print, radio, online or TV media (employed or freelancer). Fluency in German or Polish is NOT expected. At least workable knowledge of English is essential.
