The Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health (REACH) is pleased to announce the Media Fellowships for Reporting on NCD’s.

Types of Fellowships
- Local Language
- Print/Digital media journalists working for any local language publication in India (i.e. other than English) are eligible to apply to the REACH Media Fellowships for Reporting on NCDs 2024.
- National Media Fellowship
- The National Media Fellowship for Reporting on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is intended for senior journalists to research issues related to Cancer at the national level. It is expected that the work published by the Fellow will highlight a national-level issue related to Cancer and potentially have policy-level implications for the prevention and control of cancer in India.
Funding Information
- Local Language
- In 2024, REACH will award a minimum of 15 Fellowships; each Fellow will receive Rs 25,000 as support towards related travel and research expenses.
- National Media Fellowship
- In 2024, REACH will award only one Fellowship; the Fellow will receive Rs 50,000 as well as travel support of Rs 25,000.
The Fellow is responsible for:
- Researching the stories and ensuring the accuracy of all information;
- Setting up and conducting the interviews for all stories;
- Ensuring the publication of all stories.
Eligibility Criteria
- Local Language
- Print/ Digital media journalists working for any local language publication in India (i.e. other than English) are eligible to apply to the REACH Media Fellowships for Reporting on NCDs 2024.
- Current recipients of the REACH Fellowships on TB are not eligible to apply.
- The Fellowship is intended for journalists to specifically explore locally relevant issues related to Non-Communicable Diseases.
- All applications must have the permission of their Editors/ Managers to participate in the programme.
- Freelance journalists are welcome to apply provided they have written consent from an Editor/Manager.
- All Fellows must attend a two-day orientation programme in Chennai (dates to be confirmed later). Travel and accommodation costs will be borne by REACH.
- Fellows must produce a minimum of three in-depth, feature-length, well-researched stories on Cancer within a period of three months, between March and May 2024. All stories must be published by the end of June 2024.
- National Fellowship
- Print and digital media journalists working for any national or international publication in India (newspaper, magazine or web-based) and reporting in English and Hindi are eligible to apply for the REACH National Media Fellowship for reporting on NCDs.
- Previous recipients of the REACH Fellowships on TB/ NCD are eligible to apply, subject to their Fellowships being complete.
- While there is no specific restriction, preference will be given to journalists with experience in long-form journalism.
- The Fellowship is intended for journalists to specifically explore non-communicable disease (NCD)-related issues at the macro/national/policy level, whether in the public or private sector.
- Applicants must have the permission of their Editors/ Managers to participate in the programme.
- Freelance journalists are welcome to apply provided they have written consent from an Editor/Manager.
- All Fellows must attend a two-day orientation programme in Chennai (dates to be confirmed later). Travel and accommodation costs will be borne by REACH.
- Fellowship period will be between March and May 2024. All stories must be published by the end of June 2024.
- During this period, the Fellow must produce a series of a minimum of four in-depth, feature-length, investigative/long-form stories on Cancer.
