Deadline: 1 May 2024
The German non-profit organization IJP (International Journalists’ Programmes) has launched its seventh fellowship for journalists interested in reporting in the field of climate and energy.
Purpose
- IJP is a non-profit organization offering journalist exchange programmes between Germany and more than 40 other countries and regions. The purpose of these exchanges is to allow participating journalists to experience their host countries from a correspondent’s perspective, exchange knowledge and deepen their network while working in and reporting on a foreign country.
- Journalists, who are granted the climate & energy bursary, will receive a deeper and more detailed insight into the field as well as their host region and get the opportunity to work and specialize topically and internationally alike. They are also welcome to pursue transnational research on a common topic during their fellowship.
About Fellowship
- The programme starts with a thematic introductory conference (presumably mid-October 2024). Subsequently, the participating journalists will begin their stay at their respective journalistic host organizations. Journalists from Germany will stay at a host media in one of the above-mentioned countries for the time of the fellowship while the Central Eastern European journalists will spend their time in a media house in Germany. These media are selected by IJP in consultation with the fellows. While being embedded partly in the workflow of the host media, the fellow will work on their own journalistic projects and mainly report for media in their home country. During the 6 to 8 weeks of the stay, the journalists will get to know their host country and the local media landscape better, establish contacts to local journalists and deepen their knowledge about climate and energy issues.
- The programme concludes with a final meeting (presumably mid-December 2024). After the exchange, they encourage participants to stay in touch with each other through the IJP alumni network through which they will have the chance to meet many of IJP’s former fellow in Germany and more than 40 other countries.
Funding Information
- Each fellow will receive a stipend of 3.800 Euro to help cover part of the travel costs, accommodation and personal expenses during his or her stay. Participants must cover any additional costs.
Eligibility Criteria
- The bursary offers this opportunity for up to ten journalists from Germany, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia with a passion for climate and energy topics.
- The application is open to any journalist, working for any print, radio, online or TV media (employed or freelancer).
- Fluency in German or one of the other countries’ official languages is not expected, though helpful for successful application. At least workable knowledge of English is essential.
