The AXS Lab is inviting submissions for the AXS Film fund strives to support independent documentary filmmakers and nonfiction new media creators of color living with disabilities in their endeavors to tell stories, make films, and create content.
AXS Film Fund was founded to support documentary filmmakers and non-fiction new media creators of color with disabilities. 2020 very clearly brought about the need for compassion and serious change. Between violence targeted at people of color, a fearful divided nation, and the global pandemic, it is more important now than ever to raise and support a body of more culturally diverse voices.
Goals
- The AXS Film Fund Seeks to:
- Award creators, who identify as a person of color living with a disability(ies), in documentary filmmaking and nonfiction new media a one-time grant that will aid them in completing their projects.
- Help more ethnic minorities living with disabilities get recognition and job opportunities in the film industry.
- Help create more diversity amongst creators and the stories told.
Funding Information
- Each year they award up to five creators with grants of up to $10,000 each to assist them in finishing their projects in any stage of production.
Types of Projects
- The AXS Film Fund is a one-time grant for creators of color in documentary filmmaking or nonfiction new media, who identify as living with a disability. They will fund:
- Feature length documentary films, preferably led by a person of color who identifies as living with a disability.
- Nonfiction new media projects, preferably led by a person of color who identifies as living with a disability.
Ineligible Projects
- The following projects are ineligible for funding and will Not be considered:
- The applicant and project do not meet the eligibility requirements.
- Non-documentary or nonfiction new media projects.
- Projects in which applicants are hired, employed, or commissioned by another entity.
- Projects that meet the criteria, but have an incomplete application and/or are missing supporting materials.
- Projects submitted after the submission deadline.
Project Criteria
- Projects must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the grant:
- Projects should be a documentary film or nonfiction new media project.
- Documentary projects should be feature length films (experimental nonfiction will be accepted).
- The project is in any stage of production (pre-production, production, post production, distribution).
- Projects in languages other than English should have English subtitles.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the grant:
- Applicants cannot be enrolled in a full-time degree granting program.
- Applicants should be 18 years of age or older to apply.
- Applicants should be individuals however they may have a fiscal sponsor.
- Projects should preferably be led by a person of color who identifies as living with a disability.
Selection Criteria
- Projects will be evaluated based upon the following:
- The strength of the proposal and artistic approach.
- The feasibility of the proposed project.
- The ethics and accountability of the project.
- A completed application and all requested documents.
- A fulfillment of eligibility requirements.
