Deadline: 31 May 2024
Are you an independent journalist who closely follows what is happening in the world and would like to report on it? And not only about matters that dominate the front pages of the newspapers and the opening of the news, but also about events in countries that are less the focus of attention? Would you like to make quality reports abroad? Then apply for the Postcode Lottery Fund.
Free Press Unlimited and the National Postcode Lottery support foreign journalism (for the Dutch language area) with the Postcode Lottery Fund for Journalists. There is less and less money available for foreign reporting. Yet information about foreign countries is crucial for a good understanding of developments worldwide. That is why the Postcode Lottery Fund for Journalists makes money available for travel and accommodation expenses for professional journalists who want to report abroad and have not been able to gather enough resources to do so. Free Press Unlimited manages this fund.
Funding Information
- You can request a budget for a foreign report, with travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed, up to a maximum of €4,000.
For whom?
- The fund is available to all professional journalists, freelancers and people employed by the Dutch-language media. Applications can be submitted for all media types (rtv, print, inter net) and for all forms of journalism (text, photo, audio, video and mixed forms). The choice of subject is free as long as the social relevance has been demonstrated.
Eligibility Criteria
- The most important are:
- You are a professional journalist who has published articles/photographed/made broadcasts (in Dutch) in the past year;
- You travel abroad for your production;
- The production for which you are requesting money goes beyond the local level and is aimed at a broad audience;
- You have at least 1 declaration of intent from the employer or client (editor-in-chief) that they wish to publish/broadcast if the quality and relevance have been proven. This must be on stationery with signature. The Postcode Lottery Fund for journalists encourages applicants to request a letter of intent from a medium with a wide reach. Submitting multiple declarations of intent and publishing reports in various, less obvious media, to reach a larger and more varied audience is appreciated.
- The employer/client is prepared to bear a portion of the costs (e.g. fees) that is proportionate to the total costs;
- You submit a fully completed application form, written in good Dutch, in which you explain both the background and how the journalistic elaboration will take shape;
- You have not previously received money from the Postcode Lottery Fund in the past calendar year;
- You mention any other subsidies (applications) for the same production.
