Deadline: 2 September 2024
The Netherlands Film Fund is pleased to announce the Minority Co-Production Short Animation and Research & Experiment film fund.
The Fund supports idiosyncratic, artistic minority co-productions with a good chance of international festival selection with a large international audience reach, with a substantial creative and technical contribution from the Netherlands.
Funding Information
- The maximum contribution is €50,000.
Who is eligible?
- A production company (a legal entity, not a sole proprietorship or general partnership) that has been established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland and that produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis.
- The production company is represented by the Dutch minority co-producer. As a majority producer, he/she has been primarily responsible for the realisation of:
- at least one free animation production (not a commissioned film) in the Netherlands (short animation application);
- at least one free, non-commissioned production in the Netherlands (research & experiment application).
Conditions
- To be eligible for a grant award, the film production must be of exceptional artistic and content quality within the total range of international co-productions and be linked to a substantial creative and technical input from film professionals from the Netherlands.
- The application must demonstrate that:
- 50% of the financing from the main producer’s country of establishment has been confirmed.
- The total contribution of Dutch funds and market parties to the realisation of the film production must amount to at least 10% of the total production costs.
- To clarify by means of a signed declaration how tasks and responsibilities are allocated between the foreign majority co-producer and Dutch minority co-producer and how the co-production takes shape;
- The following conditions and obligations apply to the granting of subsidies:
- The applicant must have exclusive film adaptation and exploitation rights, preferably for the Benelux countries, and, if the rights for Belgium and Luxembourg have already been awarded, at least these rights for the Dutch territory.
- The film production must be released in the Netherlands, either in cinemas or with a non-theatrical release or both. An exception is made for a film production in the category short animation and research & experiment, but then a solid distribution plan must be submitted.
- The financing of a film production must be fully and unconditionally committed by third parties within 12 months of the decision to grant the subsidy.
- The applicant shall share pro rata in the world proceeds of the film production.
- The subsidy amount must be spent entirely in the Netherlands (cast, crew, etc.).
