Development of Short Animation Film Fund

It is possible to apply for the following phases of development:

• Treatment
• Screenplay
• (Moving) storyboard, artwork
• Script coach/adviser
• Preproduction

When selecting content, the Fund gives priority to original scenarios and selects on a high-quality, diverse basis and daring offer.

Funding Information

• Maximum €15,000 for treatment, scenario, storyboard, artwork and pre-production.
• Maximum €2,500 for a script coach
• On the basis of a thorough work plan, an additional contribution can also be made available for the involvement of creative or technical experts or heads of department or for making initial animation tests, with a view to developing a thorough plan for realization; and/or
• An animatic contribution can be requested after a film plan has been further developed. There must be at least a convincing scenario and in addition, the production of the animatic must be a logical and essential next step in the artistic and business development of the film plan in preparation for realization. The amount of the animatic contribution to be requested depends on the length of the film:
  • max. €10,000 for films up to 10 minutes
  • max. €20,000 for films up to 30 minutes
  • max. €30,000 for films up to 60 minutes
• Producer: max. 17.5% in producer fee & overhead on the development costs deemed eligible by the Fund.

Who is eligible?

• A production company (a legal entity, i.e. not a sole proprietorship or partnership) that has been established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, EEA or Switzerland for at least two years and produces and exploits films and other audiovisual productions on a continuous basis. The production company is represented by a producer with demonstrable experience in professional film/television practice and has demonstrable experience in producing and releasing animated short film(s).
• The producer representing the production company is not the director or screenwriter of the film. Only if the intended fund contribution for realization is lower than € 50,000 can a director who produces his or her film himself also submit a development application. In the opinion of the board, the director must have demonstrable production experience in the field of animation. Previous productions that were created in the context of a training course, competition or self-education are not taken into account.
