Françoise Demulder Photography Grants – Apply Now!

The French Ministry of Culture and the Festival Visa pour l’Image – Perpignan will be presenting two production Grants for Female Photojournalists in recognition of their contribution to photojournalism.

This grants, dedicated to women photojournalists, pay tribute to Françoise Demulder – a French war photographer, first female winner of the World Press Photo in 1977.

Objectives 

  • The Françoise Demulder Photography Grants is presented to female photojournalists in activity who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural subject in a journalistic manner, on presentation of a dossier.
  • The Grants will be given to two individual photojournalists and not to a group, without any consideration of their nationalities.
  • The Grants are given in order to allow the winners to carry out the photo-reportage which has been presented for the Grants or to achieve a started project.

Funding Information

  • Each of the two Grants Winners will receive prize money of 8,000 euros in a single payment.
  • The Applicant selected as Grant Winner of the amount of shall:
    • Complete the report before May 1, 2025 with the prospect of a possible presentation of the work, either as a feature in an evening show or an exhibition, at the 37th International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan to be held over the first three weeks of September 2025. In all case, the parties will determine together the terms of the valuation.
    • Not submit the report for any other Award, Prize, Competition or Grant before it is presented at the International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan in September 2025.
    • Not publish any photographs from the report conducted for the Grants before it is presented at the International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan (unless agreed with the prize organizers).
    • Cite the credit “Winner of the Françoise Demulder Photography Grants” in all publications and communications related to the report.
    • Authorize one photograph made for the Grants project submission to be reproduced for the purpose of promoting the Françoise Demulder Photography Grants by French Ministry of Culture and the International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l’Image-Perpignan. Maximun size: ¼ of page and only to promote the Grants during one year.
    • Authorize, three photographs from the initial report to Visa pour l’ImagePerpignan, Images Evidence and the French Ministry of Culture, plus a portrait photograph of herself for the purpose of communication on the Grants.
    • Include insurance as an item in the budget for the project to cover any contingencies in the field throughout the period of the report. The Grants Winners shall not submit any further application for the Grants before a period of five years has elapsed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The conditions are as follows:
    • Applicants must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished).
    • Applicants must be professional photojournalists.
    • Applicants must be able to write and speak in French or English.
    • Applicants must not submitted images that have been created, generated, composited or using any software, tools or technology incorporating any form of artificial intelligence.
