Deadline: 31 May 2024
The Journalists in Need Network (jinn) are launching an open call for Russian media and journalistic Projects to provide financial support to Russian independent media and journalistic projects that, despite censorship, blocking and persecution, continue to work in Russian regions or abroad.
Two years after the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian independent media continue their work, producing reports, investigations, podcasts and other media products. Despite censorship and persecution, media in exile and independent journalists who remain in Russia report on war crimes by the Russian army in Ukraine, corruption, injustice, discrimination and repression in Russia.
Voices from the regions are heard worse than others: reports and investigations from remote corners of Russia and from national republics rarely make it into the national media.
Since 2020, the Metamedia team has been providing financial, consulting and educational support for regional media, freelancers, independent investigators.
Funding Information
- The program provides financial assistance ranging from 1,000 to 10,000 euros for short-term media projects from Russian regions and investigative journalism. Projects must be implemented from April to November 2024.
- The support program covers the costs of salaries, fees, transportation, rent, hosting fees, etc. Unfortunately, the program cannot finance the purchase of equipment.
Selection Criteria
- The program is designed for creating content, reports, investigations, publications, podcasts and other media products.
- Applications are accepted from editorial offices, freelancers and regional journalistic teams. The place of registration or location does not matter.
- An independent expert jury evaluates projects based on the text of the application. Priority will be given to projects described clearly and concisely. It is important to specify the working methods and expected results. Where will your project be published? How many people will read, listen to, view your publication, what kind of audience will it be? How will your project influence public opinion and decision-making in different countries?
- Projects must be implemented and published between April and November 2024.
