The U.S. Embassy Abidjan of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to build the storytelling capacity of journalists and social media influencers to foster peace and community cohesion in northern Côte d’Ivoire.
Program Objectives
- Abidjan’s Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) program seeks a cooperative agreement with one partner who will issue rapid response small grants for programs that address the following priority themes:
- Building the storytelling capacity of Ivorian journalists across all media,
- Creating messages to building resilience against violent extremism and countering recruitment,
- Encouraging active participation of youth in a peaceful, inclusive Côte d’Ivoire,
- Promoting strong and trust-building communication within communities
- Preventing and countering disinformation with emphasis on strengthening community institutions.
- Advancing security and stability.
- Advancing economic, social, or cultural ties between the United States and Côte d’Ivoire by highlighting shared values and joint projects.

- Award amounts: $250,000
- Length of performance period: 36 months or less
- Number of awards anticipated: 1 award
Participants and Audiences
- While there are no specific required audiences, programs are encouraged to target media influences, including social media, journalists and thought leaders in northern Côte d’Ivoire, but can also include nationwide media outlets, youth and/or underserved populations.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations
- Public and private educational institutions
- For-profit organizations
- Individuals
- Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions
- In order to be eligible to receive an award, all organizations must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) number.
- Applicants are only allowed to submit one proposal per organization. If more than one proposal is submitted from an organization, all proposals from that institution will be considered ineligible for funding.
- Organizations must have a commitment to equal opportunity employment practices and to non-discrimination practices with regard to beneficiaries, without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.
