Submission are now open for the Third Horizon Forward grant for filmmakers working out of Miami who trace their lineage to the Caribbean, to interrogate and explore the culture, character, spirit, people and legacy of the region through film.
Through this program, they are interested in supporting short films with an authentic, enduring and vital connection to region Third Horizon calls home. Traditional and experimental narratives or documentaries are welcome.
This opportunity will support narrative, documentary, experimental and animated pilot projects that have intentions to create feature projects.
Third Horizon Forward is made possible with partnership from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and JustFilms Ford Foundation. Additional support provided by the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, as well as the Miami Foundation.

- Three filmmakers will be selected to receive $11,000Â in funding.

- Having produced critically-acclaimed and award-winning films themselves, the members of the Third Horizon collective will be available for mentorship sessions with filmmakers to share the experience, resources and network to support filmmakers as they go about producing and distributing their films on the film festival circuit and beyond.
What are you looking for?
- Recognizing the ongoing need to support local filmmakers in the community, they are looking for films that speak to the experiences of filmmakers of Caribbean descent who currently call Miami home. However, the films themselves do not have to be set or filmed in Miami.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be filmmakers of Caribbean descent living in Miami-Dade County.
- Should be a writer, director and/or producer.
- Have a short/pilot script for a prospective feature film (12-15min).
- Have a projected budget.
- Have a projected timeline for production.
- Have not been selected by the program before.
