The Internews in Moldova announces an open competition to support activities that will offer rural and regional residents, of all ages, opportunities to develop their critical thinking and skills to distinguish between misinformation and balanced information.
Internews will select an independent media institution/CSO whose initiatives will improve citizens’ capacities to critically evaluate information, recognize disinformation, and raise awareness of the need to make decisions based on truthful information from credible sources. Activities are also expected to reveal the public’s vulnerabilities to misinformation, including online (social media).
Applicants are encouraged to focus on innovative, creative and interactive activities. Proposals could build on existing media education initiatives to strengthen and expand efforts, if necessary.
Funding Information
- Under this program, Internews intends to award one (1) grant with a maximum budget of up to $26,000.
Duration
- Internews anticipates signing the sub-grant agreement in the period December 2023 – January 2024, with the performance period February – August 2024.
Eligible Projects
- Projects may include several initiatives that will not be limited to:
- (Applicants are encouraged to propose different approaches and activities, and not to limit themselves to the examples below.)
- Online and offline campaigns and initiatives that engage, inform and inoculate citizens against misinformation;
- Activities to improve people’s abilities to analyze, use, create and share information, both online and offline, more effectively and responsibly;
- Creative and innovative media education campaigns involving influencers, community leaders, actors, etc.;
- Creative, innovative, media education-oriented content such as debate clubs, games, contests, satirical news shows, etc.;
- Community activities based on online information verification;
- Viral content production to combat disinformation and promote media education, citizen engagement and citizen journalism.

Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- To be an officially registered organization in the Republic of Moldova;
- To have no affiliation with public institutions/functions, political parties and religious organizations/groups.
