Applications are now open for Rogers Indigenous Film Fund (RIFF) Program to provide companies and creators financing assistance for early development work of a new project, or ‘next phase’ early development work of an existing project.
The Rogers Indigenous Film Fund (RIFF) provides funding support to emerging, early, and mid-career Indigenous filmmakers and creatives to develop new works or to continue early development of a proposed work.
Funding Information
- First-time applicants who have not yet received a RIFF Program grant in the past may apply for between $5,000 and $20,000.
Project Eligibility
- Projects eligible for funding support are those that focus on the early development phase of a film project; this can include (but are not limited to) activities such as:
- Research
- Community Engagement & Consultation
- First Draft
- Re-write
- Treatment
- Outline
- Polish/Packaging
- Demo-Tape
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants are Emerging, Early-Career, Mid-Career filmmakers and creatives Who have completed studies in filmmaking OR can demonstrate that they have direct experience as a filmmaker or creative AND have one or more professional film credits.
- Emerging: Applicant is still new to the creative sector and has at least 2 years’ experience (in any number of creative roles) and has at least 2 professional credits.
- Early-career: Applicant has at least 3 years’ experience (in any number of creative roles in the creative sector) and has at least 3 professional credits.
- Mid-career: Applicant has at least 4 years’ experience (in any number of creative roles in the creative sector) and has at least 4 professional credits
- Note: Professional credits are associated with film projects that are NOT a component of or requirement of school projects. Examples of creative roles and professional credits include:
- Director
- Executive Producer
- Screenwriter
- Casting Director
- Producer
- Creative Director
- Story Writer
- Principle Cast
- Applicants are Indigenous. The term ‘Indigenous’ refers to individuals who are:
- First Nations: status and non-status individuals who are citizens, recognized members or direct blood relatives of a self-governing band, a reserve-based community, or a larger tribal group.
- Metis: (registered with provincial and/or national Metis organizations) this may also include individuals who are not listed as non-status, or who have recently confirmed their Metis lineage(s).
- Inuit: recognized as the First Peoples of the arctic regions of Canada including Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, and parts of the Northwest Territories, whose relatives are also in Greenland and Alaska. Registration varies with each regional Inuit government), and more complete definitions of membership and citizenship are available on each government’s website.
