Deadline: 15 April 2024
The International Journalism Programs (IJP) are announcing their scholarship program for Turkey for the nineteenth time.
Due to the security situation, the IJP is not sending any German journalists to Turkey this year. Nevertheless, they would like to offer interested journalists the opportunity to get together with Turkish colleagues and develop projects together.
The IJP is therefore offering German journalists the chance to write at least two articles (online/print) or develop radio reports together with Turkish colleagues in Germany or in an EU country in October/November 2024, or to create a documentary together turn. Applications are also possible for a self-researched vlog series that will be published on YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, etc.
The range of topics is broad, here are just a few suggestions: bilateral relations, human or minority rights, climate change, Turks in Germany, secularism, Turkey and the EU, refugees in Europe, integration, expansion of cultural circles, religious aspects, elections, etc.
They support this project with 5 scholarships worth 1,800 euros each. This amount is intended to support travel costs, accommodation and living expenses during the research and production period. In justified cases, the amount of the scholarship can be adjusted upwards.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists and German alumni of all IJP programs between the ages of 25 and 45 who work as freelancers, trainees or editors at media outlets in Germany can apply. Applicants do not need to have any knowledge of Turkish, but should have a very good command of spoken and written English.
- All publications should be in either German, Turkish or English, preferably bilingual.
