The International Forum is an 18-day scholarship program run by the Theatertreffen in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and Pro Helvetia, which supports artists from all parts of the world during the festival.
The International Forum is aimed at artists from all areas of the performing arts, especially in the areas of directing, acting, stage and costume design, dramaturgy, text production, music, video, performance, media, choreography, Production management and theater education.
The program includes the presentation and exchange of the artistic practice of the invited artists, visits to the productions invited to the Theatertreffen in their different formats, workshops with renowned artists, experts and scientists from various disciplines, open spaces and discussions on current art developments as well as excursions into the diverse cultural landscape of Berlin.

- Attending performances and other theater meeting formats
- Workshops with artists, experts, scientists
- exclusive artist talks and events related to the Theatertreffen
- Participation in the theater meeting’s discourse program
- Networking with the Theatertreffen’s other youth development programs
- Discussions with the management and jurors of the theater meeting
- Working groups on overarching topics
- Exchange with international theater directors and curators in collaboration with the Goethe Institute
- Audience discussions and premiere celebrations of the Theatertreffen
- Excursions and further performance visits in Berlin
Benefits
- The scholarship usually covers all costs for participation in the program:
- Tickets for Theatertreffen events
- Travel costs (full coverage / subsidy / no reimbursement of travel expenses – depending on the country of origin, cheapest travel option)
- inner-city transfer using public transport
- Accommodation in a hotel with breakfast (with the exception of the Berlin scholarship holders)
- Daily allowance or maintenance allowance (according to the service agreement, depending on the country of origin and with the exception of the Berlin scholarship holders)
- Food
- Travel and health insurance (for international scholarship holders) Visa fees (of international scholarship holders)
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicants should
- be up to approx. 35 years old;
- have several years of independent professional experience;
- can participate over the entire period (May 2nd to 19th, 2024);
- have good to very good knowledge of English (common working language mostly English);
- Participation and active participation in the entire program is required.
