Updating the curricular and teaching methods in journalism faculties is of particular importance within the agenda of Aljazeera Media Institute. This importance comes from the rapid digital transformations taking place in journalism, the decline in the role of traditional journalism, and the “inability of many colleges to keep up with it in order to “cross into the future.
The institute’s interest in the file of updating the curricula was the result of accumulating a long experience in interacting with students and understanding their needs through training or the various activities of the institute. As such, they held the first preparatory meeting for the Journalism Colleges Forum, which brought together professors, deans, specialists and journalists to formulate a preliminary vision for organizing the first edition of the “Forum of Journalism Colleges in the Arab World”.
There is full awareness at Al Jazeera Media Institute that reforming the curricula to ensure digital transformation based on an understanding of the true role of journalism in monitoring power is not borne by a single party, but rather a collective process in which deans, professors, journalists and students overlap. Therefore, the involvement of students in this forum seems necessary to diagnose their needs and evaluate their learning experiences in various colleges and institutes belonging to the Arab world, along with other stakeholders in the teaching process.
